A DIY Will Kit?

Whilst it is perfectly possible to write your own Will from scratch not many people except lawyers would know how to do this so the choice for most people is between a DIY Will Kit and and the various types of Online Will.

In fact many Will Kits are now purchased online but are are effectively downloads to print off at home and complete at your leisure.

You can buy a DIY Will Kit in the Post Office, on the high street e.g. WH Smiths, on Amazon and even on eBay.

There are also some specialist legal document providers, e.g. NetLawman and Law Depot who provide DIY Will Kits to download along with a wide range of other legal documents.

Prices do vary but like anything there may be a question of you get what you pay for.

If you do intend a Do it Yourself Will Kit do check the following before you buy that it is suitable:

  • for your jurisdiction i.e. England & Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland;
  • for your situation e.g. married or single;
  • for your intended gifts to beneficiaries e.g. substitutional gift to children;
  • for appointing guardians (if you have children under 18).

Another factor you may want to consider is support after purchase e.g. is there a help line or any guarantee or refund period applicable. However, you may find that the help lines have an expensive premium phone number though.

So there are plenty to choose from and armed with the right questions you should be able to select the DIY Will Kit that is right for your circumstances.
